1¢ Franklin Issue of 1851-1857, PLATE 4 Pos 69R4, (Scott #8) |
| Scott #8A, Blue, Type IIIa , Relief C Issued both imperforate and perforate. Had this been a perforate copy then it would be Scott Number 22. This is part of a horizontal pair consisting of 69R4 and 70R4. The published plating diagrams indicate many scratches and marks. Plate 4 changed it's appearance quickly, starting out life with no plating marks, developing them intermediately and then slowly wearing away. As this is an imperforate copy, it is most likely an earlier impression, as perforations came in use later in the plates life. Many early imperforate copies from Plate 4 were also printed on paper which produced poor impressions. Examine an another impression of 69R4 to see the plating marks. Courtesy of Richard Celler |
