| Figure 1. (Below) Long vertical scratch with a gentle bend across Ornaments A, B, C and extending into D. Several students of this issue have emailed and believe that this line is most likely an accidental gouge or scratch, and not part of the layout work for aligning the individual positions.

| Figure 3. (Below) Faint scratch marks per Neinken across Ornaments P, Q and across R. The short vertical line at the upper right, though not shown on the Neinken plating drawings, has been confirmed to be consistent. The blur into the right margin off of Ornament "O" is also consistent. The dot off of Ornament "P" has been confirmed on 2 other copies and appears to be stronger on earlier impressions and fade with wearing of the plate. Neinken plating drawing shows a vertical line connecting Ornaments "P" and "Q". This stamp does not show this mark and it cannot be seen on 2 later impressions.
