Figure 4. (Below) The famous "eye curl" first reported by the late Morris Fortgang. "Eye curls" occur on Positions 3L7 to 10L7 and 1R7 to 3R7. Wherever the eye curl occurs on a position, there is also a marking which looks like an inverted comma under the "T" in POSTAGE. This position is interesting as the flaw on the relief roller that created the eye curl has partially fallen off by the time this position was entered onto the plate. This would be the last "A" relief entered. It should be noted that the inverted comma under the "T" in POSTAGE still shows. (see figure 2 above)
