EYE CURL VARIETY

"Eye curls" occur on Positions 3L7 to 10L7 and 1R7 to 3R7.

Figure A. (below) Note that guide dots and vertical scribe lines at upper left ornaments.
Both vertical scribe lines are strong. Conversely, on position 5L7 the right vertical scribe
line is weaker than normal.

Figure 2. (Below) Wherever the eye curl occurs on a position, there is also a marking which looks like an inverted comma under the "T" in POSTAGE. Two faint lines of color cut across Ornaments L/M.

Figure 3. (Below) Lines or scatches of color cutting diagonally across the lower right plume remains. This is not clearly shown in the Neinken plating diagrams and may fade as the plate wears.
