1¢ Franklin Issue of 1857-61, PLATE 7. Pos 10R7, (Scott #24) |
| Scott #24 Blue, Type V, Relief A Issued only perforated. Courtesy of Dick Celler Plate 7 was badly damaged in both it's upper corners by a form of pitting, which shows itself on 10R7 and to a somewhat less extent on 1L7. It is postulated that this damage occured when the plate was hardened. The images below are poor impressions but the pitting can be seen in Franklins head. This damage produces a weird effect similar to the "ink film" found on other plates and most likely contributes to the inability of the plate to produce a sharp impression at this position. |
