EYE CURL VARIETY

"Eye curls" occur on Positions 3L7 to 10L7 and 1R7 to 3R7.

Ornaments O, P, Q and R are slighty short compared to other top row positions. The
white areas of O and N of ONE consistantly show a blur of ink.

Figure 1. (Below) Ornament S has a vertical blurry line of color.

Figure 2. (Below) The inverted comma under the "T" in POSTAGE. Horizontal guide line and guide dots. Several other plating marks not clearly illustrated in the plating diagrams. The two dots at UR are not level, the right one is higher. This is unusual, and can be a good plating indicator. Only 3R7 and 1R7 exhibit this characteristic.

Figure 3. (Below) The famous "eye curl" first reported by the late Morris Fortgang. "Eye curls" occur on Positions 3L7 to 10L7 and 1R7 to 3R7. Wherever the eye curl occurs on a position, there is also a marking which looks like an inverted comma under the "T" in POSTAGE.

Figure 4. (Below) Several other plating marks not clearly illustrated in the plating diagrams. Most notable is the diagonal scratch indicated by the left arrows. Ornaments O, P, Q and R are slighty short and much weaker compared to other top row positions.
