1¢ Franklin Issue of 1857-1861, PLATE 8
Pos 24L8, (Scott #24)
Scott #24 Blue,
Type V, Relief C
Issued only Perforate.

The Neinken plating diagrams only illustrate one plating mark at the upper left corner (See Figure 1.) By examining multiple copies on can usually find other plating marks. Several of these new marks are shown below.

FIGURE 1. (Below) Vertical dash of color in the upper left corner as illustrated in the Neinken plating diagrams. Early or sharp impressions show the blurring in the P and O. On later impressions, these marks fade or wear away and are less dramatic.

FIGURE 2. (Below) A small horizontal gash at the back of Franklins head. A small dot to the left of Ornament D. Neither mark is illustrated in the plating diagrams.

FIGURE 3. (Below) Several dots and a near vertical dash of color in the center right margin.

FIGURE 4. (Below) Blurs of color inside of Ornaments P, Q and upper plume of Ornament R. The lower dot of color is most likely the remains of the lower right plume.
