FIGURE 1. (Below) The gash at the back of Franklins head. This gash is the definitive plating mark for this position. Neinken shows a photograph on page 399, Fig 19-D but does not illustrate any other plating marks as the gash is the principal variety. Additionally, there is a dot in the U of U.S.

FIGURE 2. (Below) Early or sharp impressions will show a flaw below Ornament N. This flaw appears to wear or polish out as the plate begins to wear.
