1¢ Franklin Issue of 1857-1861, PLATE 8
Pos 9L8, (Scott #24)
Scott #24 Blue,
Type V, Relief A
Issued only Perforate.

Note: horizontal scribe line and guide dots at the top.

FIGURE 1. (Below) The only mark on the Neinken plating diagrams is a faint mark of color in the lower portion of Ornament H (this mark is also shown on the plating diagram for 8L8). The horizontal scribe line mark is more helpful for plating this position and one can be seen below the "O" and "N" of ONE. This scribe line has been confirmed as consistent on 3 other copies of 9L8. There is also a second, very faint horizontal line, cutting across the "E" of ONE. This smaller line is quite faint.

FIGURE 2. (Below) Two very weak dots of color not shown on the plating diagrams.

FIGURE 3. (Below) A very weak vertical scratch just below Ornament "B". This scratch most likely fades away as the plate wears.

FIGURE 4. (Below)This image is from another copy and the Neinken indicated mark is very faint. The only mark on the Neinken plating diagrams is a faint mark of color in the lower portion of Ornament H (this mark is also shown on the plating diagram for 8L8) as previously mentioned in Figure 1 above. Scratches and scribelines are also helpful for plating a position and one can be seen below the "O" and "N" of ONE. This scribeline has been confirmed as consistent on 3 other copies of 9L8. There is also a second, very faint horizontal line, cutting across the "E" of ONE. This line is very fine and cannot be seen in this image.
