1¢ Franklin Issue of 1857-1861, PLATE 8
Pos 43R8, (Scott #24)
Scott #24 Blue,
Type V, Relief E
Issued only Perforate.

UNUSED BLOCK OF 10 CONSISTING OF 32, 33, 34, 35, 42, 43, 44, 45, 52, 53R8.

The violet arrows below indicate other scratches and marks of interest not shown in the Neinken plating drawings. Also examine a later impression of 43R8.

FIGURE 1. (Below) Red arrows indicate various plating marks and the CURL above and in between the "A" and "G" of POSTAGE. The plating diagrams do not show the CURL extending into the "G" of POSTAGE. Violet arrows are other marks of note which may not be constant. Also examine a later impression of 43R8 to see how the CURL wore away with plate usage.

FIGURE 2. (Below) Dot in head (RED ARROW) as indicated in plating diagrams. The violet arrow shows another CURL to the right of Ornament "C". This curl also appears on Position 84R8 and most likely was caused by a small piece of foreign matter attached to the roller when the image was entered onto the plate. The plating diagrams do not show this CURL. If I understand the order of entry correctly, this position was entered after 84L8.
