1¢ Franklin Issue of 1857-1861, PLATE 9 Pos 58R9, (Scott #24) |
| Scott #24 Blue, Type V, Relief F Issued only Perforate. Note that Neinkens plating diagrams indicate that 53, 57, 58 and 59R9 have no plating marks. This is an error in the case of Position 58R. There are many plating marks as we will show below. An attempt to show the most obvious marks of note are indicated here. Also see an earlier impression of 58R9 |

| FIGURE 1. (Below) Faint gash mark thru the "G" in POSTAGE. This mark and position placement has been confirmed on 2 other copies. The 2 nearly vertical blurry lines protruding up from the remains of Ornament Y are constant.
|
| FIGURE 2. (Below) Dick Celler, another student of this issue, emails the following confirmation. "... There is also a very heavy mark in the top of the vertical stroke of the "P" of POSTAGE. You can probably see it under the cancel..." In the image below, the red cancel ink has been lightened photographically to aid in revealing the forementioned mark. (Pink Arrow) Also see the other 58R9.

| FIGURE 3. (Below) The far right arrow pointing to the gap between the N and E of "ONE." The far left arrows pointing to the double line protruding from the remains of the left plume. It is not known at this time if these marks are constant or reliable.
