1¢ Franklin Issue of 1857-1861, PLATE 9
Pos 59R9, (Scott #24)
Scott #24 Blue,
Type V, Relief F
Issued only Perforate.

Note that Neinkens plating diagrams indicate that 53, 57, 58 and 59R9 have no plating marks. This is an error in the case of Position 59R. There are many plating marks as we will show below. An attempt to show the most obvious marks of note are indicated here. Several other students of this issue have emailed confirmation of this position as being 59R9 and as this is part of a pair, we have final confirmation of it's position on the plate.

This is part of a pair consisting of 58 and 59R9.

FIGURE 1. (Below) Plating marks not previously identified. All marks except the mark third from the left have been confirmed on other copies. The mark in the shoulder becomes a smudge and most likely fades away as the plate wears.

FIGURE 2. (Below) Heavy mark at the bottom of the "E" of POSTAGE. This mark has been confirmed as consistent.
