1¢ Franklin Issue of 1857-1861, PLATE 9
Position 73R9, (Scott #24)
Scott #24 Blue,
Type V, Relief D
Issued only Perforate.

Part of a block of four consisting of 63R9, 64R9, 73R9 and 74R9.

It is interesting to note that the D reliefs coming from the 8th horizontal row (71R9 thru 80R9 and 77L9 thru 80L9) have blobs of color in the O and T of POSTAGE. Neinken notes this only on 72R9, 78R9, 80R9 and 80L9 but not the other positions.

This position is not illustrated in the Neinken plating diagrams and is noted as not having plating marks. Almost every position from Plate 9 has some identifing feature and careful examination of multiple patients will most likely reveal some plating feature.

FIGURE 1. (Below) Diagonal dash of color inside of Ornament R not illustrated in the Neinken plating diagrams but confirmed here as consistent. This mark would most likely be the definative plating mark for this position as it does not appear on any other position thus far.

FIGURE 2. (Below) Blurry blob of color in the O and S of POSTAGE not illustrated in the Neinken plating diagrams but confirmed here as consistent.

FIGURE 3. (Below) Small dot of color in the center right margin.
